In this interview, Italian exchange student Lorenzo reflects on how studying at FTK combined hands-on learning and inspiring teaching into an experience that exceeded his expectations and left a lasting impact.
Why did you choose our university for your Erasmus study experience?
I chose FTK mainly due to its comprehensive program of study and the availability of English-taught courses.
Are you happy with your choice? Were your expectations different from the reality?
I am very happy with my choice, and my expectations have even been exceeded! It is an excellent university with a very welcoming and human-centered environment.
Can you compare your study experience in Olomouc with the experience from your home university?
My degree program at home is more theoretical and focuses primarily on clinical kinesiology. Here, I attended courses at the Faculty of Physiotherapy that were similar to those at my home university; however, I had the opportunity to engage in many practical activities and delve deeper into adapted physical activities for people with disabilities.
What was/is your favourite course and why?
I liked all the courses, but I particularly enjoyed the one on Respiratory kinesiotherapy and the APA Winter Camp. In both courses, the expertise and professionalism of the professors left a lasting impact on me—something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
I am incredibly thankful to them for this, and it is something I truly appreciate.
How did/do you spend your free time?
I travelled a lot. Olomouc's location is perfect for exploring both the Czech Republic and the rest of Europe.
Was the student support system (ESN, faculty ambassadors) helpful during your stay?
The faculty ambassadors have always been very helpful whenever I needed assistance.
And The Erasmus office was fantastic: they were incredibly helpful and always responded very quickly to my inquiries.
What were some of the biggest challenges you had to overcome as an Erasmus student?
I didn't face any major challenges; this was my second Erasmus experience and, fortunately, everything went smoothly.
What is the single most memorable experience you have from your Erasmus life?
At the APA Winter Camp, I saw this much snow for the first time in my life. I learned to ski thanks to the professors' patience and had the chance to challenge myself through adapted activities. Moreover, I truly connected with the Czech students and my Spanish classmates... I will carry these friendships in my heart forever.
Have you changed because of your Erasmus experience?
I changed a little bit every day.
How can this experience benefit your future career?
Observing my professors in action taught me invaluable lessons for my future career. They are outstanding professionals who prioritize the journey over the result. By trusting me and giving me the space to fail, they genuinely helped me evolve.
Would you recommend the exchange stay at the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University Olomouc to your friends? Why?
I highly recommend this experience to all students who want to challenge themselves and learn how to work in our field. The faculty offers a wide range of courses and activities, and the fact that they are taught in English makes studying accessible to everyone.
