From May 19–24, 2025, Wroclaw hosted the international project Silver Vibes, Silver Energy: Physical Activity for Seniors, held as part of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). The project aimed to deepen the knowledge and practical skills of students in promoting active ageing and designing physical activity programs for seniors.

Palacký University Olomouc was among the participating institutions. The Faculty of Physical Culture (FTK) was represented by Mgr. Klára Botková from the Department of Adapted Physical Activities, along with three students from the Adapted Physical Activities program.
More than 40 participants from nine countries took part in the event, including representatives from the Czech Republic, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Portugal, Greece, Romania, Slovenia, and the United States. The program was diverse and intensive, featuring expert lectures, hands-on workshops, sports classes, as well as social and intercultural activities. A key component was the combination of theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and direct engagement with the senior population.

Students had the opportunity to wear special simulation suits that mimicked the physical limitations associated with ageing—reduced mobility, impaired vision, and diminished balance—helping them gain a better understanding of the daily challenges seniors face. They also took part in movement and dance workshops, games, and engaging physical activities that demonstrated how physical activity can be not only beneficial but also joyful in later life. Greek lecturer Elisavet Konstantinidou introduced participants to traditional Greek dances, while students from the U.S. led country dancing sessions. Dance emerged as a powerful tool for both physical fitness and cultural exchange.

“The entire program was incredibly inspiring—both professionally and personally. We had the chance to explore different approaches to senior physical activity and try out methods that expand our perspective on active ageing,” said Klára Botková.

One of the standout moments was the presentation by Portuguese expert Tiago Rafael Oliveira Moreira, who highlighted the link between physical activity, cognitive function, and mental health. Participants were also introduced to TryVinci, an innovative core-training device that reduces strain on the body while encouraging exercise through playful, game-based elements.

The program also included a visit to the community center Przestrzeń Trzeciego Wieku, which offers year-round programming for older adults. In collaboration with the university, the organization provides sports, educational, and cultural activities for tens of thousands of Wroclaw’s senior citizens. Another source of inspiration was the local University of the Third Age, which—like its counterpart at Palacký University—serves as a valuable tool for social integration and lifelong learning.

The final day of the project had a festive, athletic atmosphere. Under the slogan Przewietrz się na Olimpijskim, people of all ages gathered at the city’s stadium to try activities like Nordic walking, simulated biathlon, climbing, martial arts, and relaxation techniques.
“Our students made remarkable progress over the week—they developed new skills, practiced their English, and most importantly, built connections that could inspire them long after returning home. I believe they’re leaving with lots of motivation and a renewed drive to find creative ways to engage seniors in active living,” added Klára Botková.

For both students and the teacher, participating in this event offered valuable professional insights, fresh ideas for future work with older adults, and meaningful international connections. Above all, it fostered deeper empathy for the elderly and reinforced the idea that ageing does not have to mean the end of an active life.
