In May 2026, Ivana Hanzlíková from the Department of Physiotherapy completed a one-week teaching mobility at LUNEX University of Applied Sciences in Luxembourg. As a new partner institution of the Faculty of Physical Culture at Palacký University Olomouc (FTK UP), LUNEX University now offers both students and staff new opportunities for study and teaching mobilities within the Erasmus+ programme.

LUNEX University is a private higher education institution specializing in sport, health, and physiotherapy. It offers a wide range of study programmes taught entirely in English. At the bachelor's level, students can pursue degrees in Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Science, International Sport Management, Nutrition, Fitness and Health, Corporate Health and Wellbeing Management, and Osteopathy. At the master's level, the university offers programmes in Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Science, as well as Sport Management and Digital Strategies. This article focuses primarily on the bachelor's and master's programmes in Physiotherapy, in which Ivana Hanzlíková was involved during her teaching mobility.

One of the university’s greatest strengths is that all courses are taught in English. As a result, its academic staff come from various parts of the world, including South Africa, Iceland, Italy, Brazil, Australia, and many other countries. Each lecturer brings experience gained at different universities and within diverse healthcare and educational systems, providing students with a broad range of perspectives and creating an inspiring international learning environment.

Another distinctive feature is the organization of studies, which differs considerably from the Czech system. Individual modules are offered in both the fall and spring semesters, allowing students to select courses regardless of the timing of their mobility. Teaching is delivered in blocks, meaning that students focus on a single topic for several weeks at a time, such as musculoskeletal physiotherapy of the lower limbs. Each day typically consists of lectures and practical sessions lasting no more than four hours. After completing a module, students are given several days for self-study before taking an examination, after which they move on to the next module.

The size of the study groups also differs from that at FTK UP. Approximately 100 students are enrolled in each year of the Physiotherapy programme. Practical classes are delivered in smaller groups, usually divided into two sections, with multiple instructors present during teaching sessions. This approach allows for more individualized support and interaction with students.

During her stay, Ivana Hanzlíková had the opportunity not only to teach but also to attend lectures and practical classes led by her colleagues. The overall quality of teaching was very high, and the master's programme in particular demonstrated a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice and on critically integrating knowledge acquired during undergraduate studies. While the majority of students come from France, many other nationalities are also represented.

The university is located in the town of Differdange, approximately one hour by bus from Luxembourg City and only a few kilometres from the French border. One significant advantage for students is that all public transport in Luxembourg is free of charge. On the other hand, Luxembourg is among the most expensive countries in Europe, particularly in terms of accommodation costs. The university does not provide student housing or catering services. Many students therefore opt for shared accommodation or choose to live in neighbouring France, from where they can conveniently commute to campus in approximately 20 minutes.

Differdange itself offers all essential amenities and a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. The surrounding area includes numerous forests and natural spaces suitable for walking, outdoor recreation, and sports activities. Nearby Luxembourg City provides a rich cultural scene, historical landmarks, and the unique atmosphere of one of Europe’s most fascinating capitals.

For Ivana Hanzlíková, the teaching mobility at LUNEX University was a valuable professional experience and an opportunity to gather insights that may prove useful for future FTK UP students and staff considering a study or teaching mobility in Luxembourg. “I would recommend LUNEX University to anyone looking for a truly international environment, high-quality teaching in English, and the opportunity to engage with both academics and students from around the world. The combination of different experiences, approaches, and cultures is, in my view, one of the university’s greatest strengths,” Ivana concludes.
